Career Description

Airborne Operations specialists are part of a team that works to manage the chaotic nature of war and help ensure victory. As part of this aircrew, you'll use airborne radar sensors and electronic countermeasures equipment to help manage the battle space and provide information to pilots and ground units regarding hostile activity. These specialists are integral to the success of the Air Force mission and can be stationed in the United States or with overseas units flying on E-3 or EC-130 aircraft. When you complete academic training and your flying training begins, you are authorized to wear the aircrew member wings and receive flight pay.

Career Tasks

• Perform aircrew member duties as an airborne warning command and control systems operator
• Operate computerized airborne radar sensors and electronic countermeasures equipment, plus maintain communications nets with ground, air and sea surface units
• Gather, record, display, control and distribute information between ground, air and sea surface command and control units
• Perform preflight, postflight and in-flight duties to support the unit mission

Training

After eight-and-a-half weeks of Basic Military Training, every Airman goes to technical training to learn their career. Here's the basic information about Airborne Operations technical training:
