Career Description

As an Aircrew Flight Equipment specialist, there are things you do that help aircrews and pilots get off the ground every day. There are also things you do that you hope no one will ever need. You'll be in charge of ensuring all flight equipment is in perfect working order — from flight helmets to oxygen masks. You'll also be responsible for ensuring all emergency safety equipment like parachutes and survival kits are ready to go should they be needed. If an aircrew needs to make use of emergency equipment, it could mean the difference between life and death, so your work had better be perfect.

Career Tasks

  • Responsible for flight equipment such as helmets, oxygen masks, parachutes, flotation devices, survival kits, night vision goggles, anti-G garments, aircrew eye and respiratory protective equipment and other types of AFE
  • Operate various types of test equipment such as altimeters, oxygen testers, leakage testers, radio testers and other types of testers to conduce reliability testing of AFE
  • Perform operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment
  • Instruct aircrews on the purpose, operations, care and use of their aircrew flight equipment and chemical defense equipment
  • Ensure aircrew are weapons-qualified and prepared to deploy
