It's easy to see how the extreme noise conditions inherent with working around jets can cause hearing damage. That's why as an Air Force Audiologist, you'll help manage and develop hearing preservation programs. Additionally, you'll treat the full spectrum of hearing-related issues as well as provide hearing and cochlear implant services. And since you won't be running a practice and wrangling with insurance companies, you'll have more time to treat Airmen and their families.

Career Tasks

  • Conduct the full spectrum of diagnostics, including audiologic and vestibular evaluation, electrophysiology and hearing aid and cochlear implant services
  • Provide education, training, clinical support and program management
  • Engage in research-based practice as well as training and supervision of technicians, students and resident physicians

Becoming a Direct Commission Officer

To ease your transition into the Air Force, you'll enter a five-week training regimen designed to educate you on the ways of both the military and military healthcare. You'll participate in physical conditioning five days a week, leadership training and classroom studies.
