Career Description

As you can imagine, the Air Force employs countless computers to accomplish its mission. But a computer is only as good as its software, and that's where Computer Systems Programming specialists come in. Airmen in this career field write code and programs that are critical to our war-fighting ability from maintenance tracking programs to programs that organize and display intelligence data.

Career Tasks

  • Supervise and perform as a computer analyst, coder, tester and manager in the design, development, maintenance, testing, configuration management and documentation of application software systems, client-server and web-enabled software and relational database systems critical to war-fighting capabilities
  • Develop standardized tools and interfaces in accordance with Air Force Network Operations (AFNETOPS) guidance to transform raw data into actionable C2 information
  • Develop and implement policy to enable effective information discovery, indexing, storage, life cycle management, retrieval and sharing in a collaborative enterprise information environment
