Career Description

Because more than 22 percent of Airmen are women, the Air Force needs skilled OB/GYNs around the world to care for female Airmen and the families of all our service members. In the Air Force, you'll care for patients with the aid of capable staff, the latest equipment and without the hassles of running a business or carrying malpractice insurance. Your only concern will be providing the best care possible.

Career Tasks

• Care for pregnant women
• Provide prenatal and postnatal care as well as perform deliveries
• Diagnose and treat disorders of the female reproductive system
• Provide specialty care to active-duty and retired members as well as their families
• Provide medical and surgical treatment for disorders while working with other highly qualified OB/GYN physicians, midwives and nurse practitioners

Becoming a Direct Commission Officer

To ease your transition into the Air Force, you'll enter a five-week training regimen designed to educate you on the ways of both the military and military healthcare. You'll participate in physical conditioning five days a week, leadership training and classroom studies.
