Career Description

Tradition is an important part of the U.S. Air Force. Part of that tradition can be found in the U.S. Air Force band. In the premier band, you'll conduct sectional rehearsals and act as a drum major for marching bands at drills, parades and ceremonies. For many civilians, these public events will be the only interaction they have with the Air Force; therefore, your service is essential to presenting the public face of the U.S. Air Force.

Career Tasks

  • Perform in concert bands, orchestras, marching bands, dance orchestras and miscellaneous musical groups
  • Make individual musical parts from the arranger's full score and compile the director's condensed score
  • Conduct sectional rehearsals and act as drum major for marching bands at drills, parades and ceremonies
  • Receive, catalog, file, issue and maintain music and arrange rehearsal facilities
  • Repair and adjust musical equipment
