Air Force Turns 60

Air Force Turns 60

For the past 60 years, the Air Force has done pretty amazing things. This October the Air Force will kick off its 60th Anniversary Commemoration “Commemorating 60 Years of Air and Space Power.”

The commemoration begins with the dedication of the Air Force Memorial in Arlington, VA on October 14, 2006. The memorial honors the millions of patriotic men and women who have distinguished themselves in the Air Force and its predecessor organizations. The memorial consists of three spires evoking the spirit of flight and representing the Air Force core values: Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence In all We Do.

In addition to this dedication, from October 2006 – November 2007, the Air Force will pay special tribute to the sacrifice and contributions of those who pioneered the skies before us at a number of events in the local community, at Air Force bases and at national events including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600, and Aviation Nation, a large air show held at Nellis AFB, NV each year.
