Air Force Leaders Sign Memorial
Weeks before the official dedication of the Air Force Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, two of the Air Force’s top leaders visited the construction site to sign the structure. Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Gen. Michael T. Moseley along with Chief Master Sgt. Rodney McKinley both penned their signatures in permanent marker on one of the enormous pieces of stainless steel that will be raised into the air to complete the structure.
Both leaders were thoroughly impressed with the progress that has been made on the memorial since its conception nearly 13 years ago. General Moseley also expressed his feeling that a memorial honoring sacrifices Airmen have made since the Wright Brothers’ first flight was long overdue.
Chief McKinley said he was honored to put his signature on a structure that represents “the very best of what we have to offer in the Air Force.”
The memorial is scheduled to open Oct. 13 in conjunction with the Air Force's year-long celebration of its 60th anniversary.
