CAREERS

Aerospace Control and Warning Systems Apprentice

This career field is used in most of the Air Force's major commands. About two thirds of the career field's personnel are in the Air Combat Command. You will operate ground defensive radar and command and control systems. The two main radar systems are the Joint Surveillance System and the Ground Theater Air Control System. The Joint Surveillance System is housed in permanent facilities while the Ground Theater Air Control System is housed in mobile facilities that can be deployed worldwide to meet any contingency. Assignments in these systems range from the continental United States to Europe and the Pacific with sites also in Alaska and Hawaii. The personnel assigned to these systems use radar display consoles and computerized display consoles in order to defend friendly forces from airborne attack. The Joint Surveillance System is the main component of the North American air defense structure and is responsible for the defense of the continental United States and Canada from airborne attack. The Ground Theater Air Control System is a highly mobile system that supports Joint Forces operations at deployed locations and is responsible for defensive and offensive airborne operations within an assigned area. The above explanations only scratch the surface as far as explaining the vastness of opportunities. If selected, you will receive additional in-depth briefings upon your arrival at technical school.
