Geneticist

The Air Force maintains the only full-service department of genetics in the Department of Defense, with molecular and cytogenetics laboratories and clinical services. Laboratory services are provided for patients all around the world. Air Force geneticists provide both clinical laboratory and patient care services. You'll have the opportunity to evaluate and follow pediatric patients with genetic disorders, provide counseling to families with cancer and other heritable diseases and provide prenatal counseling. Depending on your training, you may also perform prenatal diagnostic procedures. As physicians certified in clinical molecular genetics or cytogenetics, geneticists are also responsible for all aspects of a clinical diagnostic laboratory, interacting with ordering physicians and laboratories all around the world.
