Preventive medicine physicians in the Air Force have the opportunity to optimize the health of the Air Force and Department of Defense (DoD) community through a broad scope of jobs using population-based preventive medicine. These include jobs involving epidemiology and surveillance, development and fielding of population health programs, operational support to training bases (e.g. recruits), health services support and policy development for the AF Surgeon General, clinical informatics, research, academic preventive medicine, health promotion program and policy development. Opportunities exist to deploy on humanitarian missions, be assigned as an international health specialist, train at the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the CDC or participate on DoD-level population health management efforts.
